World Mental Health Day 2023: Actions for Rare Diseases

ERN eUROGEN joined the first meeting of the new EURORDIS Mental Health & Wellbeing Partnership Network which was launched on World Mental Health Day, 10 October 2023.

The Partnership Network’s overarching objective is to bring together experts and stakeholders to promote the development of a mentally healthy community that reduces the accumulated impact of rare diseases on people living with a rare disease (PLWRD), their families and caregivers. It will unite and empower the rare disease community to come together, learn, take action and tailor recommendations to the specific needs of PLWRD, in all policy areas, to ensure the mental health and wellbeing of the rare disease community is improved.

ERN eUROGEN has three representatives in the network in order to join the discussion groups on 1) Population Needs & Surveys, 2) Research & Quality of Life, and 3) Awareness, Advocacy & Communication. The recording and slides from the inaugural meeting are available here, and the next meeting will be on 17 January 2024.

The EC is also emphasising a comprehensive approach to mental health and to mark World Mental Health Day held a half-day, high-level conference in Brussels, hosted by Stella Kyriakides, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety.
