ERN eUROGEN Publication: Penile Cancer Management

A significant new paper, Complex Decision Making for Individual Patients With Penile Cancer: Benchmarking Divergent Practices in European High-Volume Reference Centers: Results From eUROGEN Survey, has been published in Clinical Genitourinary Cancer.

This study sheds light on the complexities of managing penile cancer (PeCa) in high-risk cases, highlighting treatment variations across European reference centres.

The study involved 39 specialists from 13 countries, all representing high-volume centres within ERN eUROGEN. It assessed practices related to (neo)adjuvant therapies, systemic regimen preferences, immunotherapy, and the integration of next-generation sequencing (NGS). Key findings revealed significant variations in approaches, influenced by professional backgrounds and a lack of standardization. Notably, the limited integration of NGS underscores a gap in the adoption of precision medicine for PeCa.

The authors call for greater adherence to evidence-based guidelines, enhanced collaboration among specialists, and the development of uniform practices to improve outcomes for PeCa patients. While the study’s sample size and design limit broader applicability, its findings offer valuable insights into the challenges of managing this rare and complex condition.

We encourage members of ERN eUROGEN to read the full paper and consider how its findings might inform future clinical practice and research.

Congratulations to the authors on this important contribution to the field!
