On 5–6 June 2025, operating room (OR) nurses from across Europe gathered in Rotterdam for the first in-person meeting of the Cross-ERN Surgical OR Nurses Network.
Organised by ERN CRANIO and hosted at the Erasmus Medical Center, this event brought together OR nursing professionals from several European Reference Networks (ERNs) to share experiences, explore differences in surgical settings across countries, and identify collaborative opportunities for the year ahead.
ERN eUROGEN was pleased to support the participation of Ramona Capelli and Michela Carera from Azienda Ospedaliera Papa Giovanni XXIII, Bergamo—one of our full member Healthcare Providers (HCPs).
Ramona reflected on the experience:
“This meeting has been one of the most rewarding and enriching professional experiences I have had so far. It was an invaluable opportunity for learning and growth.”
The two-day agenda combined practical activities and group discussions. Participants toured the Erasmus OR suites, ICU, and Central Sterile Services Department, explored Rotterdam’s sights together, and took part in collaborative brainstorming sessions to shape future cross-ERN OR nursing activities.
Michela shared:
“This meeting was an incredible opportunity to share two days with colleagues coming from all over Europe and then to discuss similarities and differences in the OR setting between our countries. It was amazing spending two days all together, because it was not only a work meeting, but it was important even for human relationships.”
ERN eUROGEN would like to thank ERN CRANIO for their excellent organisation of this important initiative, and we look forward to seeing how the network develops.
