ERN eUROGEN is just one of 24 European Reference Networks (ERNs) established by the European Commission to connect specialist centres across the EU and Norway for rare, low-prevalence, and complex diseases. As of October 2025, the 24 ERNs together include more than 1,600 specialised centres across 375 hospitals in 27 Member States and Norway. Each of the 24 networks brings together hospitals, clinicians, researchers, and patient representatives around its own group of conditions, but all ERNs work in broadly the same way: through virtual expert case discussions on the Clinical Patient Management System (CPMS), shared clinical practice guidelines, patient registries, and training and education programmes.
