Penile cancer is a rare type of cancer that develops in the tissues of the penis. It usually starts in the skin cells of the penis, but it can also start in the cells of the glands or other structures within the penis. While the exact cause of penile cancer is unknown, symptoms may include a sore or growth on the penis, bleeding, discharge, or a change in the appearance of the skin of the penis. Penile cancer is usually diagnosed through a biopsy, in which a sample of tissue from the affected area is examined under a microscope. Treatment for penile cancer may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or a combination of these. The choice of treatment depends on the stage and location of the cancer, as well as the patient’s overall health and personal preferences. Marco Falcone is a consultant at “SC Urologia U – Molinette hospital” and “SC Neurourologia – USU/CTO hospital” – AOU “Città della Salute e della Scienza”- University of Turin, Italy. His interest is focused on andrology and reconstructive genital surgery. He has had full training in microsurgery, developing the necessary surgical skills to perform complex penile reconstruction (phalloplasty) in both transgender and cisgender male patients. He has developed a wide clinical and surgical experience in the treatment of erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease and penile cancer. He has a PhD in bio-engineering and surgical sciences from the Politecnico of Turin (Italy).
