Shaping the Future: Towards an EU Action Plan on Rare Diseases

On 10 April 2025, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), the Polish Ministry of Health, and the Medical University of Warsaw co-hosted the high-level conference Towards an EU Action Plan on Rare Diseases at the Medical University in Warsaw, Poland.

Held under the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU, the event marked a significant milestone in the drive to develop a coordinated and effective European strategy for rare diseases. Discussions centred on building a robust policy framework to complement existing legislation, stimulate investment, and enhance collaboration across EU Member States. A central objective was to advocate for the adoption of a comprehensive EU Action Plan on Rare Diseases, underpinned by clear and measurable goals.

The conference was followed on 11 April by a dedicated side event, Bridging Research and Care for Patients, which brought together clinicians, researchers, and patient representatives to explore how research and clinical practice can be better aligned to benefit those living with rare diseases.

ERN eUROGEN was represented at both events by Programme Manager Michelle Battye, reinforcing our commitment to advancing care, collaboration, and innovation for patients with rare and complex urological conditions.
